What if the fear holding you back is just an illusion?

Fear can manifest itself in many ways: fear of being judged, fear of failure, fear of success, or even fear of not making enough money. We went deep into this conversation in my mastermind container of impact driven coaches, healers and service based entrepreneurs recently, exploring fears ranging from disappointing people and being judged to not making enough money, failing, or even the fear of succeeding. 

When we broke these fears down to their core, it became clear that they were rooted in attachments, beliefs, and perceptions. And when we asked one powerful question—yes, but would I be okay?—we discovered that so much of what was holding us back could be shifted, opening the door to courage and forward momentum and today I am sharing some of this with you.

The Truth About Fear: It’s Not As Powerful As It Seems

What if I told you that the fear keeping you from making bold moves—whether that’s launching a new offer, raising your rates, or putting yourself out there—is really an illusion? Fear often feels insurmountable, but it’s usually just a story our minds create to keep us safe. As holistic practitioners and service-based entrepreneurs, fear can manifest in the form of self-doubt, fear of visibility, or worry about failure.

✨ Educational Insight: Your brain is hardwired to avoid risk, which often translates to avoiding opportunities for growth. This wiring comes from the amygdala, the part of your brain responsible for processing emotions and triggering your fight-or-flight response. When you experience fear or discomfort, your amygdala perceives these emotions as a potential threat—even though, in reality, you are rarely in physical danger.

In the world of entrepreneurship, this means your brain might treat the fear of being judged, failing, risks or even succeeding as if they were life-or-death situations. But the truth is, these fears are emotional risks, not physical ones. Avoiding discomfort because of this ancient survival mechanism keeps you small and stuck.

So, what have you been holding back on because of fear? Reflect on this with curiosity instead of resistance. By understanding that your brain’s alarm system is simply trying to protect you—and realising that most of the time, you’re perfectly safe—you can start to take brave, aligned action toward your goals.

Have you ever paused to consider whether your fear is rooted in logic or simply familiar patterns? By acknowledging and unpacking these layers, you give yourself the choice to lead differently. Remember, it’s not always the fear itself that holds us back—it’s our attachment to what the fear represents.

Often, these fears are embedded in our psyche not because they’re rooted in truth but because they feel familiar. Have you ever paused to consider whether your fear is grounded in reality or if it’s just an echo of patterns you’ve internalized over time?

Take, for example, the fear of losing a purchased home. For some, this is a source of deep anxiety, tied to beliefs about security, stability, and success. But for others, the idea of not having a mortgage or a permanent residence represents ultimate freedom—a life untethered, full of possibilities and new adventures. This contrast highlights how the meaning we attach to our fears can vary greatly based on our perceptions and beliefs.

By acknowledging and unpacking these layers, you create space to lead differently. You begin to see that it’s not always the fear itself that holds you back but rather your attachment to what the fear represents. What if you could reframe these beliefs and see opportunities where you once saw limitations? The power lies in your willingness to explore your fears, question their validity, and choose a new narrative that empowers you.

Practical Steps to Navigate Fear in Your Business

  1. Journal Prompt 1: What’s the fear that’s most present for me right now?
  2. Journal Prompt 2: What story am I attaching to this fear?
  3. Journal Prompt 3: Is this fear logical, or is it just a well-worn habit of the mind?
  4. Journal Prompt 4: If I let go of this fear, what new possibilities could open up for me?
  5. Journal Prompt 5: What’s one small, brave action I can take today, even with fear still in the background?

Remember, building emotional resilience isn’t about eliminating fear; it’s about learning to dance with it. Even the most successful entrepreneurs aren’t immune to fear—they’ve simply mastered the art of seeing fear as feedback, not a stop sign.
